According to a recent tweet by a twitter user @MaxdMerc, a guy working at the Apple Store, Lakeside (UK) has reportedly confirmed that the next firmware update might be delayed slightly due to Apple working on a fix to patch the hole, recently used to jailbreak iOS 4. This however shouldn’t be surprising as almost all firmware updates in past have been used to block the exploits used to jailbreak the previous firmware versions.
Guy in Apple Lakeside seems 2 think 4.0.1 is delayed as they r doing a fix 2 stop jailbreak that they have found. Dunno if true?
Another reason for the delay could also be because of the iPhone 4 jailbreak, which was recently shown off by the members of iPhone Dev Team. Since Apple didn’t give any specific release date except for saying “next few weeks”, there is this little chance that they might be holding of the new firmware update to see if a jailbreak for iPhone 4 is released now so that they can patch it before releasing iOS 4.0.1 / 4.1 firmware update. Though all this might be just a rumor right now, but a strong possibility of this being true still exists.
Last week in an open letter, Apple acknowledged the iPhone 4 reception problem which according to them is a software issue and will be fixed via software update coming in the next few weeks. The problem as it turned out was related to the “totally wrong” formula which was used to calculate the signal strength. [Thanks Gerald Dinho for the hat tip via Twitter! | via Razorian Fly]
UPDATE 1: After publishing this post, another user on Twitter confirmed this to us. He lives near the said Apple Store and has been told the same thing by a friend who works there for Apple.
Sportycos @TaimurAsad @chpwn I can confirm this in a way. That store is near where I live. A friend of mine works there and told me the same.
